Sandy Eulitt on Trusting Your Instincts and Building Life Backup Plan

In this episode of The Inventive Journey, host Devin Miller interviews Sandy Eulitt, founder and CEO of Galacxia, Inc., about the experiences, instincts, and unexpected career path that led her to create Life Backup Plan.

Sandy’s journey began with astronomy and early computer programming at Purdue University, where she wrote programs using punch cards on a Cyber 205 mainframe. Her career later included computer sales, software engineering, database architecture, astronomy education, and operating a business that provided telescope programs and private astronomy events.

The idea for Life Backup Plan emerged from Sandy’s own experience recovering from rotator cuff surgery while living alone in a two-story home. Unable to drive or use one arm, she realized that she could fall or experience another emergency and remain undiscovered for days. What began as an idea for automated wellness checks soon expanded as other needs arose among her family and friends.

Sandy envisioned a comprehensive platform that could combine personal safety, health information, caregiving, emergency preparedness, and wellness tracking. Drawing upon her background in software engineering and database design, she designed the larger system before identifying the features needed for its initial release.

During the interview, Sandy also discusses the importance of building the right professional network. After returning to Orange County, she became involved in local groups focused on app development, cybersecurity, user experience, intellectual property, fundraising, and entrepreneurship. That ecosystem helped her find the people and resources needed to develop Life Backup Plan and build Galacxia.

The conversation also explores one of Sandy’s most important entrepreneurial lessons: knowing what to delegate. Although she had the technical expertise to develop the app herself, doing so delayed its progress because she was simultaneously responsible for marketing, fundraising, intellectual property, legal matters, and company operations. She ultimately hired a developer and learned to concentrate her own energy where it could have the greatest impact.
