Hi, I’m Sandy Eulitt, CEO and founder of Life Backup Plan by Galaxia, Inc. You might notice the hard cervical collar I’m wearing. That’s because a week before I recorded this video, I came home from the hospital after major spine surgery.
Most people would expect me to be in bed, but instead I’ve been relying on the very app I built — and it’s given me safety, independence, and peace of mind.
Cervical Spine Surgery Recovery eased by Life Backup Plan
Here are three ways Life Backup Plan supported me during recovery:
1. Post-Discharge Monitoring
I set regular check-ons through the app so my friends know I’m safe. If I don’t respond, they’re automatically notified. This way, I can rest without constant phone calls, and my friends don’t have to worry.
2. Community Assistance
Since I can’t drive, I used the app’s assistive skills feature to request help with small errands. A neighbor picked up Tylenol for me when I needed it, and another picked up a prescription today. That “pay it forward” community support is exactly what we envisioned for the app.
3. Lifestyle and Symptom Tracking
Using our LifeLog feature, I recorded my pain levels, medications, sleep, and other details. When I called my doctor’s office about a setback, I had precise information ready — and my care team appreciated the data.
Why I Built the App
This isn’t my first surgery — or even my first cervical spine surgery. Four years ago, I had another one, and that experience motivated me to build Life Backup Plan. I knew there had to be a better way to help people feel safe, cared for, and connected when they’re recovering or living alone.
Who Else Can Benefit?
Life Backup Plan isn’t just for people like me who live alone after surgery. It helps:
- Anyone who wants peace of mind while alone, showering, climbing stairs, or exercising.
- Outdoor adventurers, women dating, and family monitoring
- Hospitals seeking affordable post-discharge monitoring. to reduce readmissions
- Employers wanting early detection of accidents and illnesses to reduce healthcare costs, absenteeism, and presenteeism
The app has a digital patient intake form for personal health information. Your medical history may be shared with contacts, clinicians, and first responders on a line by line bases, including integration with electronic health records (EHR) systems. In so doing, it improves continuity of care, and improves the patient experience and patient outcomes.
I’m grateful for the neighbors, doctors, and friends who’ve supported me through recovery — and even more grateful that the app I built is proving itself in real life. This is why I created Life Backup Plan: to help people live safer, freer, more independent lives.
